Practice makes perfect, or repetition is the mother of all learning. We have all heard one of these phrases at some time in our life. I ask myself, what is a good way to practice your second language? Why not do some role play.
Role play can be done alone or with another person helping you. Think of a future situation when you will need to speak in your newest language, or a past situation when you’ve had problems. I sometimes have problems speaking fluently with strangers, especially when trying to think of a quick answer to a difficult question. I can practice for this. After one such situation I wrote a short dialogue on my laptop. Then I practiced the sentences until I felt comfortable speaking them.
When doing this, remember to focus on your pronunciation, you can use an online dictionary to check it. Try to speak naturally — repeat sentences and not individual words. Practice really does make perfect, and I’m sure it will help if you prepare for future situations. Try it today.
