Starting to study a language is a pretty complicated process, because it usually takes lots of effort. Thinking about that and reflecting upon my own experience as a language student, I reunited seven simple tips — most of them for beginners — which can help out in the learning process.
Buy a monolingual dictionary for beginners because it will help you to keep thinking in English and avoid comparisons between English and Russian.
Write down all the new words you have learned and train yourself by using them in real life. You will remember a word forever only if you use it seven times in seven different contexts.
Use post-it notes and stick them around your home using them to label things.
Think in English to improve your fluency and do not translate from Russian.
Sing your favorite lyrics because learning English songs is one of the most effective ways to improve language.
When you read, remember that you don’t need to understand every word, but look for the general meaning. Then go back and look up new words.
Watching English movies and TV can help you to practice your listening and to understand the different English accents. You might try using subtitles at first, but when you feel more confident, turn them off.
If there is something else that you do, you can leave us a comment, we will be glad to share it with other people who are struggling to learn a new langue.
