Which stories did you read as a child? Have you heard of «The Tortoise and the Hare», «The Goose with the Golden Eggs», or «The Dancing Monkeys»? These are popular examples of what we call a fable. It is a short tale intended to illustrate a moral, often with animals or inanimate objects as characters.
Reading fables to children is a wonderful way to entertain and bond with them. What’s more, it teaches valuable lessons in a way that is understandable to them. The simple characters and settings, including a conflict early in the story can immediately attract their attention. In general, fables provide an excellent way to teach kids the consequences of good and bad behavior.
These are some interesting fables and the lessons one can learn from them:
«The Ants and the Grasshopper» — there’s a time for work and a time for play
«The Dog and the Shadow» — be happy with what you have
«The Crow and the Pitcher» — there’s always a way; don’t give up
«The Two Crabs» — lead by example
«The North Wind and the Sun» — kindness wins people over
