New Year Day is upon us, and preparations are in full swing. But, while this day is believed to be one of the most wonderful events of the year, it doesn’t seem true when it comes to the environment. So here are some tips on how to make your celebration eco-friendly:
Opt for an eco-friendly New Year tree
No matter how beautiful a real tree is, we have to admit that annual deforestation is barbaric. As an alternative to a real New Year tree, you can opt for a high-quality artificial one or even make it with your own hands from paper, fabric cuts, and threads.
Use sustainable decorations
As for decorations, environmentalists don’t recommend using plastic items because of their toxicity. It’s much better to make something nice with your own hands from paper or textiles — such accessories are durable and likely to last more than a year.
Avoid synthetic packaging
Wrapping materials often contain plastic. However, it’s a great idea to wrap gifts in parchment or even newsprint and tie them with twine or colored ribbon — such boxes look no worse than bright synthetic packaging.
Present impressions, not things
If you want to show your respect for the planet, environmentalists recommend giving your dear ones impressions: a hot air balloon flight, a Spa session, a subscription to a useful master class. If you still want to present your friend with a souvenir, let it be something made with your own hands.
We wish you a Merry Christmas and an eco-friendly New Year!
