Do you like music? Would you like to use it as a medium to help you improve your English? Why not? It can be a very good tool to learn new words and keep your interest in the language.
Music has always been my passion. Growing up, I tried to learn the lyrics to my favourite songs. It always gave me a sense of satisfaction to learn a song by heart. But as I grew older, I turned my attention to the actual meaning of the songs. That’s when I finally paid attention to the words themselves and what the songs really meant.
The very first song I did this to was John Lennon’s «Imagine». As a child, I didn’t have a clear idea what it truly meant, but out of curiosity, I started to look up the meaning of some of its words and that’s when I discovered the meaning of greed. Since then, I have been doing this to all of the songs whose words I wasn’t familiar with inadvertently enriching my vocabulary and keeping up with the trends of English today.
You can do the same for yourself. Supplement your English learning by listening to music. Not only will you enjoy this, but it will also expand your vocabulary.
