One of the advantages of lessons with a native English speaker is that they can share normal everyday words with you, words that they use regularly, but that may not be found in a textbook.
For example, today I have been doing a little cleaning in my kitchen, but do you know what the names of the normal everyday tools there are called?
Cutlery
This is the overall name for knives, forks, spoons, and other similar eating utensils.
Dishes
This word can be used to describe all of the items we eat from. «Doing the dishes» is the activity of cleaning and drying everything we ate with.
Dishcloth
This essential cloth is used to rub clean the dishes along with some washing-up-liquid and hot water.
Scrubbing brush
Saucepans needing some extra «elbow-grease» or scrubbing, require some kind of scrubbing brush to remove caked food.
Tea towel
Who doesn’t love drying dishes, right? To dry them before using them again, or to put them away in the cupboard, we have the light and absorbent tea towel.
Did you know any of these words already? From who or where did you hear them?
