American football is a sport not many Russians know much about. Seeing as the Super Bowl just passed, I thought it would be cool to enlighten you about America’s most popular sport, which is played almost exclusively within our border.

In American football, the goal is to get the ball to the side of the field opposing your own. The «goal» in American football, which is a large rectangle at both ends of the field, is called the ’endzone’. Making it to the endzone awards you six points. The acting of making it to the endzone is called a ’touchdown’. After scoring, you have two options. You can punt the ball through the middle of the big, yellow goalposts to gain one additional point, or try to run the ball into the endzone again for two additional points.

There is another way to score in American football. You could also choose to simply punt the ball in between the tall, yellow goalposts. This is called a ’field goal’. This will award you three points.
